Abstract

Men and women are equal in the light of Islamic laws. Both have equal rights and obligations. Both are given the same importance in shariah and both will be responsible for their deeds before their lord on the Day of Judgment. In spite of all these things some facts can never be ignored that Allah (SWT) created both sexes in different physical structures. So Allah (SWT) assigned them different fields and duties according to their specific nature. In this connection an issue was highlighted in print and electronic media when a women named Isra Nomani led the combined group of men and women in (Jum’a) Friday Prayers and it was criticised across the globe, and recently in January 2018 another woman of India performed prayers as Imam, leading men and women in a Masjid, So it was realised that a critical analysis should be carried out on this issue that whether it is permissible in Islamic law or not?In the following article we tried to explain the said issue in the light of Islamic arguments mentioned in Quran and Sunnah and we hope it will enlighten the knowledge and research among the well learned community regarding the issue.
