A research study of Method and Style of Dr Meher Abdulhaq Somra in “Hindu sanamiyat”

Abstract

A study of Hindu Religion is an academic Discipline which tends to study the traditions and practices of the Hinduism. Though Many Muslim scholars have contributed in the field of world religions, but very few Muslim scholars attempted to study Hinduism. Among them, Dr Meher Abdulhaq Somra is one the pioneer who contributed in the discipline of Hindu Studies. Dr Meher Abdulhaq Somra (1915-1995) is considered one of the greatest scholar and researcher of 20th century. He was born in Punjab in 1915 and after perusing his education to masters, he got his PhD from Punjab Oriental College Lahore. Dr Somra playd his immense role in understanding world’s religious within mythological discourse. He wrote more than 40 books on various areas but his remarkable work is about religion is about Hindu Mythology (ہندو دیولامائیت).( Among his major works, “Hindu Sanmiyaat” has its own uniqueness and usefulness in the field of Religious Studies. This article is about “Hindu Sanmiyaaat” and it will throw light on the method and style of Dr Meher Abdul Haq Somra in this Book. We shall highlight Dr Somra’s approaches which he used to understand Hindu religion, beliefs (Although Islam rejects all the beliefs of Hindus mentioned in this book or article) and the sources and pattern of reasoning as well.
